1934 - Lillooet's Honoured Citizens
![]() Ma's printing presses in Museum display | In 1934 George Murray, member of the Legislative Assembly for Lillooet, started the Bridge River Lillooet News and the editor was his wife Margaret. A flag on page 2 of "Ma's" newspaper always read: "Printed in the sage brush country of Lillooet every Thursday God willing. Guarantees a chuckle every week and a belly laugh once a month or your money back." Ma ran for the Social Credit Party in 1946 and was one of the original candidates. She was honoured in 1971 with the Order of Canada. |
| Another treasured citizen of Lillooet was Dr. Masajiro Miyazaki who made his home in Lillooet from 1942-1984. He was interned in the wartime evacuation of Japanese from the coast and sent here for their health needs. Soon he was called upon to service the whole area on horseback, by railway speeder, rowboat, and on foot. He became involved in village matters and the Boy Scouts after Japanese Canadians attained the vote. In 1977 Dr. Miyazaki received the Order of Canada. He donated his house to the Village of Lillooet and it is now a Heritage site. |
